[00:00:29] When you were a kid,
[00:00:31] did you ever dream that you'd be this big of a star?
[00:00:35] -Ahh. Mm... -I mean, you're big. You're big.
[00:00:38] I mean, I'll go into the numbers, but yeah.
[00:00:40] I mean, you're going at this dream.
[00:00:42] Did you realize it could be -- you're international?
[00:00:44] -Yeah. Well, no.
[00:00:46] I mean, I don't even know what to say.

[00:00:50] Well, I actually I grew up in Australia,
[00:00:52] and so it always felt like
[00:00:54] it wasn't really much of a possibility
[00:00:56] for me to, like, be a singer, so I never really dreamed of it.
[00:01:00] But I do remember, like, singing, um,
[00:01:02] until like midnight every day.
[00:01:04] And my dad eventually just kind of,
[00:01:06] like, sent me to an audition because he kind of, I think,
[00:01:08] wanted to kick me out.
[00:01:10] [ Laughs ]
[00:01:11] -He could hear you in your bedroom just singing?
[00:01:12] -No, just like in the living room.
[00:01:14] -Oh, in the living room. -I just, like, sing till, like
[00:01:16] midnight and, like, fall asleep, like, on the piano.
[00:01:19] -No way. So you had it in you.
[00:01:21] -Just like it was a form of entertainment
[00:01:22] because it was really boring.
[00:01:24] Australia is really quiet. -Oh, my God.
[00:01:26] [ Laughter ] -It's like...
[00:01:28] -But then when did you -- -Not much to do.
[00:01:29] -When did you learn guitar?
[00:01:31] -Around the same time. -You did?
[00:01:33] -Yeah. YouTube was kind of like hitting off back then.
[00:01:36] And like, all these YouTubers, like, online,
[00:01:38] it looked really cool.
[00:01:40] And so I was like, I want to be like them
[00:01:41] and just, like, picked it up.
[00:01:42] -Really? -Yeah.
[00:01:44] -Do you remember your first guitar?
[00:01:45] -Yes I do.
[00:01:47] It was a blue. It was $70.
[00:01:49] My dad bought it for me. -Yeah.
[00:01:52] -And I remember it was like it was a cheap one.
[00:01:54] So like, my fingers hurt so much.
[00:01:55] And then -- -That's how you learn.
[00:01:57] That's how you learn. -Yeah.
[00:01:59] But I was, like, crying because it was,
[00:02:00] like, really cheap and, like, my fingers were really hurting.
[00:02:04] And so, like, I got together all of my pocket money
[00:02:07] that I had saved up my whole life --
[00:02:09] I was probably like 14 by then.
[00:02:10] And I got, like -- I still have it.
[00:02:13] It's like still my favorite guitar.
[00:02:14] It's a Taylor GS Mini.
[00:02:16] And, so, yeah. [ Chuckles ]
[00:02:17] -And so you take that guitar and that's
[00:02:19] how you audition for Blackpink? -Yes.
[00:02:22] -Do you remember the song you played?
[00:02:24] -Yes I do, it's uh, uh...
[00:02:27] it was around the time Jason Mraz
[00:02:29] had released a song called "I Won't Give Up,"
[00:02:31] and I just learnt it.
[00:02:33] So I was like, I did it.
[00:02:34] -Did you realize right there at the audition,
[00:02:37] you go, "I got this"? -Not at all, not at all.
[00:02:40] I walked in, like, I thought it was a joke.
[00:02:42] I was like, "This is funny. I'm not gonna get it at all."
[00:02:45] And so -- And like, my dad and I
[00:02:46] had flown all the way from Melbourne to Sydney
[00:02:49] for the audition, so I was just like,
[00:02:51] "I might as well make some good memories."
[00:02:54] And so I kind of went, "Hi." [ Chuckles ]
[00:02:57] -And just --
[00:02:58] -I did it and I was like, "Bye."
[00:03:00] -Yeah. And then cut to --
[00:03:02] -They called me and I'm like, "What's happening?"
[00:03:04] -You're gonna be in one of the biggest groups ever.
[00:03:06] And now here you are with your first full-length solo album.

[00:03:13] -Did you always know that you wanted to call it "Rosie"?
[00:03:16] -Uh, no, actually.
[00:03:18] There was, like, a big debate.
[00:03:20] I have a song called "number one girl,"
[00:03:22] so that was initially, like, the rough idea.
[00:03:24] Like, maybe we'll call it "number one girl,"
[00:03:25] but then, um...
[00:03:27] Uh, yeah.
[00:03:29] So, like, Bruno actually, uh,
[00:03:30] tried really hard to convince me, he was like --
[00:03:33] Because "Rosie" was one of the options, and he's like,
[00:03:36] "It has to be Rosie.
[00:03:37] Because your friends and family call you Rosie."
[00:03:39] -He's brilliant -- Bruno Mars. -Yeah.
[00:03:40] Yeah, he's been a great mentor and friend.
[00:03:42] -Yeah, we love him.
[00:03:44] You also produced this
[00:03:45] but also wrote every song on this.
[00:03:48] How do you land on a lyric or a song title?
[00:03:50] Does that one lyric come to you first or the title come first?
[00:03:54] -Uh, I think stories come first.
[00:03:57] Just like, uh, we would just chit chat and like --
[00:04:01] -Do you write them down or record them on your phone
[00:04:02] or something? -I will, I jot down
[00:04:05] like a bunch of ideas and sometimes I, like, text
[00:04:07] my, um, like, songwriter friends
[00:04:11] and so, like, it's just like phrases and words
[00:04:13] that kind of pop up and just anything
[00:04:15] you want to write about and like,
[00:04:16] kind of get off your chest.
[00:04:18] I think that's how I usually do it.
[00:04:19] -Does it ever get confusing if you're just
[00:04:21] sending someone just a title, like,
[00:04:23] "Why don't you love me anymore?" -Yeah. [ Laughs ]
[00:04:25] I've done that before. No, I've done that before.
[00:04:27] I texted uh, uh, Michael Pollack --
[00:04:30] he wrote a few songs on my album --
[00:04:32] and I'd be like, for example, I'd be like, "How dare you?"
[00:04:34] And he'd be like, "Excuse me?" -[ Laughs ]
[00:04:36] "How dare you?" -Yeah.
[00:04:38] We have to write this next week.
[00:04:40] -We have to. Let's talk about, uh,

[00:05:04] -Uh, yeah, APT is a Korean drinking game that, um, I like.
[00:05:09] I kind of, uh, like, I remember when I turned 20,
[00:05:14] my Blackpink, the girls, in my group, they got,
[00:05:17] like, all the alcohol we could get.
[00:05:19] We're like, "We're gonna drink tonight."
[00:05:21] It was the day I turned 20, um, legal age in Korea to drink.
[00:05:24] And, yeah, like, that kind of started it.
[00:05:27] And we, like, played drinking games and APT was one of them.
[00:05:30] -So, APT is a drinking game. -It's a drinking game.
[00:05:32] -Uh, now, can you --
[00:05:34] I have a shot of something.
[00:05:36] -What is that?
